Why use an editorial service?
Clear and accurate information
Clear and accurate text ensures readers will focus on the information you want to convey instead of any grammatical mishaps.
Present your work with confidence
Submit that proposal, report or essay; publish that advertising literature or blog, with confidence, knowing it is polished and error-free.

Ensures professionalism
Spelling, grammar and punctuation errors can make your business appear unprofessional. In contrast, polished, professional and well-written content supports your company’s professional reputation. It also creates an excellent first impression when presenting your work for the first time.
Builds customer confidence
Advertising literature with mistakes can undermine the trust potential customers have in your business. Polished, error-free literature builds credibility and confidence in the quality of your products or services.
Maximises your marketing efforts
With perfect advertising literature, you can maximise the return on investment in marketing campaigns. Proofreading and editing ensure the material is as effective as possible, making the most of your advertising spend.
Keeps your inspiration flowing
You may prefer to focus your creative energy on the content of your writing rather than on the grammatical details – hire a proofreader or editor to take care of this for you.
Does your work need proofreading or editing?
Proofreading
Correcting any spelling, punctuation, grammar or capitalisation errors.
Removing typographical errors (typos).

Ensuring accurate word usage (e.g., affect/effect, assent/ascent, licence/license).
Creating consistency throughout the document. For example, if ‘for example’ has been used in one part of the document and ‘e.g.’ is used in another, it can be changed to one or the other for consistency.

Ensuring that spelling adheres consistently to either British or American spelling conventions.

Checking the document format to ensure uniformity in page numbers, bullet points, font and text size, and other formatting elements.
Querying any inconsistent information that may confuse readers.

Editing
In addition to proofreading, I offer a copyediting service. This involves all the proofreading checks listed above, with an additional enhanced review of the language used to improve readability, flow and tone.
In copyediting, word choices are reviewed, and clunky or vague sentences are refined, making them more concise and effective. The paragraphs and flow of information may be restructured to improve clarity and cohesiveness in wordy or unclear text. Copyediting ensures your message is clear, coherent and the tone of your document suits its purpose. The goal is to produce a polished, consistent and professional document while preserving the author's voice and intended meaning, making it the best version of itself.
Copyedited documents receive enhanced assessment, so the process can take a bit longer than proofreading.
What is not included?
Fact-checking
Proofreading and copyediting focus on the details of the text, not the content of information. However, any glaring factual errors or potential issues relating to copyright or trademark law will be highlighted for your information.
Rewriting content
Altering the information or adding new material is not within the remit of proofreading or copyediting, as the author’s voice is maintained. If you need assistance with content development, consider contacting a developmental editor or a writer.
Accuracy of references and citations
Verifying the accuracy of references is the author’s responsibility. However, as part of the proofreading or copyediting process, references can be checked to ensure they are correctly formatted and aligned with a chosen style guide. The placement of in-text citations and their consistency with the reference list can also be checked.
